Creating Art Using P5.JS

p5.js is a JavaScript library created with the goal of making coding accessible for artists and designers and reinterprets this for today’s web.

Using the original metaphor of a software sketchbook, p5.js has a full set of drawing functionality. However, you’re not limited to your drawing canvas, as p5.js has addon libraries that make it easy to interact with other HTML5 objects, including text, input, video, webcam, and sound.

This class gives artists (in the making) an introduction to the Javascript programming language and then continues with a comprehensive overview of the p5.js library, concluding with a demonstration of how to get your creations onto the web.

No previous experience with code is necessary, but you do need to be comfortable with installing programs, surfing the web and editing text.

Student Feedback

The keywords were reviewed constantly, easily explained, and in … a neat way. I always wanted to code and art was an interest for me. This was a great experience.
It was very easy to understand and informative. I felt like I learned a lot of the basics in a short amount of time.
This class was great and I would take it again. There is nothing that I do not like about the class.
